Come Live By The Bay

Introduction

My wife and I have lived in Mathews County, VA for over 30 years. We raised our kids here and have started successful businesses. The Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck is like nowhere else I have ever visited. The beauty of the Chesapeake Bay and it's connecting rivers, the clean air, and the relaxed small town atmosphere make this a perfect place to raise a family or spend your retirement.

The way things used to be

Do you remember when you could send your kids out to play without worrying? How about walking through town stopping frequently to talk to family and friends you met along the way? Believe it or not that kind of life still exists right here in the Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck.

Mathews County

With a population of less than 10,000 people Mathews is the definition of small town. The town centers around a beautiful historic main street featuring amazing locally owned restaurants, a cultural arts center, and of course the Mathews Visitor Center. Home to the third oldest lighthouse on the Bay, Virginia's Lil' Ole Opry, two museums, nature preserves, and an active artisan community, Mathews County offers something for everyone.

Gloucester County

Just a few miles west of Mathews you will find Gloucester, a fast growing area that has doubled it's population in the last 30 years from around 20,000 to nearly 40,000 inhabitants. Main Street in Gloucester boasts a number of wonderful locally owned restaurants, a farmers market for locally grown produce, and the Gloucester Museum of History. Gloucester offers a number of historical sites including Werowocomoco, a stronghold of Chief Powhatan that has recently been discovered and excavated, Rosewell plantation, as well as the homes of Dr. Walter Reed, and civil rights activist T.C. Walker.
